[02.01.05] - Making the Cover of Southwestern Image Magazine

KC's image "Legacy of a Champion" was featured on the cover of the February issue of Southwestern Image Magazine. The image went into PPA's Loan Collection and helped earn KC his Silver Level Photographer of the Year Award. Below is the Cover Story.

"K.C. Montgomery began his career as a photographer back in 1984, although his passion for photography started during his college days at the University of Oklahoma. He pursued that passion through his love of horses by developing a style of equine conformation photography that became in high demand. Today K.C. is the official contract photographer for the American Quarter Horse World Championship Shows (since 1997), the American Paint Horse World Shows (since 1996), as well as the former official photographer for the European Championships in Germany for almost a decade. K.C. has had the opportunity to work for clients throughout the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, England, and Brazil. He and his wife currently own and operate an advertising agency which caters to the western and equine industries as well as the photography business. In 2004, K.C. was honored by the American Quarter Horse Museum and Heritage Center in Amarillo, Texas when they created a special exhibit entitled "Power, Grace and Beauty through the Lens of K.C. Montgomery". The exhibit consists of eighteen 30"x40" framed canvas prints of some of K.C.'s finest work and will hang in the main gallery of the museum through January 2005. It will then become a traveling exhibit at other western museums throughout the United States. K.C. feels very fortunate to have such a wonderful customer base and the opportunity to pursue his passion for photography by capturing the many different aspects of one of the greatest animals on earth, the magnificent horse. The cover image is of a World Champion Quarter Horse stallion which was captured with a Nikon D1X during normal daylight hours and the software used to create the illustration was Photoshop and Corel Painter. K.C. and his wife, Nova, have two children; Andrew, 23, a senior at the University of Oklahoma and Ashley, 21, a junior at Oklahoma State University."
